Viatel installed a tower for Medium Wave and Frequency Modulation (MW/FM) emission in the city of Portalegre. The work was commissioned by RTP, the Portuguese TV and radio public service broadcaster. The project carried out by Viatel technicians focused on the replacement of the decayed guyed mast by a new structure, with the same characteristics and supporting capacity. To this end, it was necessary to first install a smaller, provisional 30-meter structure. The replacement of the main mast required the dismantling of the existing MW and FM radiant system and its reassembly after the new mast was in place, as well as new cabling installation and tuning. It was also necessary to ensure the radiant system was working within RTP-specific parameters. Due to the complications associated with installation of a 70-meter-high tower and all the technical equipment involved, this assignment was carried out in 20 working days only.
